We held a tour and breakfast for the London Breakfast Business Club this morning. The members got a tour of our facilities and a history of our company as well as an explanation of the process from Quarry to countertop! A great time was had by all!

On August 15, we hosted the London Chamber of Commerce’s Business After 5 networking event. We had over 125 local business leaders in for a tour of our facility, great food and drinks, and some all important networking. Many commented on how this was an amazing venue and event, and hope we do it again! We were happy to show local leaders how manufacturing is important in London.

On June 8 we had our annual yard sale. We raised $555 for the Children’s Health Foundation. We also had 97.5 Virgin Radio there to support us! Thanks to all our volunteers and those who bought items to support the cause!

On June 4 we presented a cheque to the Children’s Health Foundation for $9,024.80. This total was raised by Top Shop employees over the year and what a great day it was to present the results of all their hard work! Thank you to everyone for their hard work over the year!

In April, the London Spring Home & Garden Show was held at the Western Fair District. The Top Shop debuted our one-of-a-kind booth, where “stone comes alive”. This interactive display of beautiful granite and marble with wonderful dancers that blended into the stone was a huge success and the talk of the show!
We encouraged show patrons to get their picture with our dancers and gave away an ipad to one lucky winner, Alexa!

We had a terrific show again at the LHBA Lifestyle Homeshow. Over 17,000 members of the community walked the floor and we were fortunate enough to meet many of them. Thank you London for your support again this year!

Most recently, The Top Shop showed our support once again for the Bethany’s Hope Foundation at their recent Walk The Park event on October 13th. We entered a team of nine and raised over $900 for the Foundation’s research.

Mandy Leask and Chris Guimond also supported the Bethany’s Hope Foundation at their annual Rock The Park fundraiser by volunteering their time to help set up and serve refreshments to park-goers and concert attendees. This year Rock The Park raised $253k ($100k more than last year) for a total of $1.5million over 9 years! Following tradition, Linda Coates made a wonderful cake that looks just like the cheque that was presented. With The Top Shop staff’s help, we were able to present a cheque for $11,800 this year! With our donation of $25,000 last year to the Children’s Health Foundation, we helped create a brand new exam room in the new wing of the Children’s Hospital! Recently, a private tour and dedication cermony was held on-site, with many dignitaries present.
We have also installed countertops in the new BMO Optimist Centre on Rectory Street in London. This new centre has soccer fields and an indoor walking track! With the donation of slabs from Hanwha and their HanStone product, the concessions, tables and sills have never looked better!

Two fun things we’ve been doing in the community lately. Held on Saturday, August 27th, The Top Shop’s 3rd Annual Yard Sale and BBQ Fundraiser for the Children’s Health Foundation was great success! With the big top white tent up and loads of stuff for sale, Top Shop staff volunteered their time once again. Dr. Beary Goode also made a guest appearance to support this worthy event, giving hugs and spreading cheer to lucky patrons. A special thanks to Jack from Art-A-Print Signs who created a banner with the Children’s Hospital logo to promote the yard sale and BBQ. We raised almost $600 for the Children’s Hospital at this year’s yard sale. Everything left over from the sale was brought to Goderich and donated to help with their Tornado relief efforts!
Secondly, some of you may recall we ran a silent auction in June to fundraise for the Children’s Hospital and one of the items up for auction was a 4 hour boat cruise complete with a wine and dine package. Gerry and Lorraine Hensels were the lucky winners and enjoyed a wonderful boat cruise in August, compliments of David Dean & Linda Coates.

Astral’s National Day of Caring for Kids Radiothon was a resounding success and, through the continuous efforts of staff at The Top Shop, we have once again made a contribution for $8,000! As many of you already know, the staff and president of The Top Shop share a commitment to fundraising for the Children’s Health Foundation. Through the year Top Shop staff members lead initiatives to raise money and awareness of the Children’s Hospital and their needs. The donation was delivered with a giant cheque-shaped cake on location at Victoria Hospital. Special thanks to Linda Coates for her special contribution in hand-making one of the biggest cakes I’ve ever seen (see below)!
Funds raised will be used to purchase neonatal monitors, paediatric exam tables, and paediatric trauma beds. Additional pictures and information can be found at:

October 22nd was the date of our big cheque presentation. We hit our special 25th anniversary fundraising goal two months early and presented a cheque for $25,000 to Jill Osborne on behalf of the Children’s Hospital.
At the presentation Mark Elliot, father of Tristen and benefactor of the Children’s Hospital services, shared the story of how his son was born without a functioning liver and the difficulties he and his wife faced while helplessly watching their suffering infant son. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the services of the Children’s Hospital and explained how community supporters really do make a difference every day in the lives of needy children and families in the region. The good news is Tristen is now a happy, healthy two year old and has had a new liver for a year now. The intimacy and candour Mark used to tell his son’s story touched every one of us and made me realize how very rewarding it is to be involved in fundraising for the Children’s Hospital.

As many of you know, we are continuing our fundraising efforts throughout the year to accomplish an annual goal of $25,000 in celebration of our 25th year in business. Our most recent fundraising heroes are The Top Shop’s Emily Coates and Sharon Garrod who raised over $1,000 by collecting sponsors and cycling from London to Sarnia on the weekend of June 12th. Both adventuring cyclists are pictured below at the end of their trek underneath the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward. Congratulations girls!

London’s local radio stations hold an annual call-in Radiothon to raise funds for the Children’s Health Foundation. This event was held on April 29, 2010 and raised $416,000. Whoa! That’s a lotta dough for our children, thanks to all participants and organizers. The Top Shop presented its annual ‘cheque cake’ which was enjoyed by all. So far this year The Top Shop has donated a total of $15,750, approaching our $25,000 goal for 2010! At the anniversary party on Friday night, The Top Shop announced a 2010 fundraising goal of $25,000 for our friends at the Children’s Health Foundation, CHF (formerly the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario). As of Friday evening, our goal is halfway realized. Thank you to all sponsors and fundraising efforts thus far, children all over Western Ontario will benefit from your generous donation of time and/or money. We are pleased to report that the event was a resounding success! The entire event raised $22,500 for the London Food Bank to distribute to local families in need; The Top Shop’s total was $9,050!

Once again, The Top Shop is proud to be a platinum sponsor for the Race to Erase road rally fundraiser. Proceeds benefit the London Food Bank and involves teams of adults driving through London to complete fun-filled challenges. The challenges are designed not only to be entertaining but to create awareness and exposure to local businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
The London Food Bank helped an average of 2,500 families per month in 2008 and the need continues to rise this year in 2009.
